. . 🌿 I just finished Anne of Windy Poplars and though it was very different from the other three Anne books, I loved it! Told mainly as letters from Anne to Gilbert, Windy Poplars is Anne’s life after she is engaged to Gilbert and the three years they are apart as she is Principal at Summerside High and he is off at medical school (EXCEPT WHAT HAS GILBERT EVEN BEEN UP TO?!) This book reminds me so much of Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell, in that you are getting to experience the town through its colorful characters from an outsiders perspective. Anne is mostly recounting little vignettes of life in Summerside (WHICH BTW IN MY VIDEO REVIEW I SAY IS SUNNYSIDE AND ONG I’M WRONG). And holy crap is it endearing and entertaining. Some of my most favorite bits were Nora and Jim Wilcox, Teddy Armstrong’s story, Katherine becoming a normal human being, AND SWEET TINY ELIZABETH! I’m excited to get back to Anne’s life with Gilbert and their House of Dreams, but truly enjoyed this refreshingly different book in her life story. I’m reading along with @sweetsequels and @bookishstardesings for #sweetbookishandanne. Have you read this yet? If so, what do you think, and who is your favorite minor character?
