. . 🚀 OKAY LISTEN...this book is good. But I need you to just understand a few things...THIS IS NOT YOUR NORMAL YA BOOK. And also, IT IS A THRILLER NOT A SPACE ROMANCE. Got that? Okay, let’s proceed... Lauren James is young and this was her debut book and OMG SHE NAILED THIS! I rarely pick up thrillers and it’s because they give me so much anxiety, especially if they are done well. This one is done well and I am NOT ASHAMED to tell you that I woke up several times last night in a panic, because I had dreams that I was experiencing things I read in this book. I want to do a spoiler video because there is so much WHAT THE EFF HAPPENED! going on in this book. So do me a favor and pick it up so we can properly discuss. If you don’t know anything about it, here is my quick none-spoiler synopsis: Romy is a sixteen year old born in space and is the only surviving crew member on a ship headed into another galaxy to restart civilization. Since her parents and the rest of the crew died, a heavy load of responsibility has been put on Romy’s shoulders and she is completely isolated. That is, until her therapist back on Earth tells her another ship is headed to meet up with her to help her complete the mission. She finds so much hope in this and starts to become dependent on the communication with the other ship’s captain, J. But a war back on Earth has left them both stranded in space and unsure of who to trust. MY GAWD GUYS! This book will blow your mind and it’s a highly addictive read. Lauren James is able to accurately depict the psychotic breakdown one would have in isolation and the dependency upon any form of human interaction. I repeatedly felt troubled for Romy and claustrophobic at how stuck her life is and the burden of humanity that she is having to shoulder. I need you to pick this up so we can discuss. If you have read this, let me know so we can chat about it! This was my official pick for @spacetoread’s #greatspaceread and it did not disappoint!
