. . I’m pretty positive I am THE LAST person on bookstagram to be “reviewing” this book. In fact, this probably barely counts as a review, and qualifies more as a fan girl video. You have been warned. . If you are like me and are living under a rock and hadn’t read anything by @christinalauren or this book, then HI 👋🏼 LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT IT! . The Unhoneymooners is a perfect summer read that involves one of my favorite tropes...enemies to lovers. Olive is the maid of honor for her twin, Ami’s, wedding. Ami is the lucky twin (having won ever part of her wedding for free...including the honeymoon), while Olive is “unlucky” (she was just laid off from her job and is down a roommate). And Ethan, Ami’s soon to be brother-in-law, is the douchecanoe that Olive doesn’t want to have to deal with. Olive and Ethan are both the only wedding guests to forego the free seafood buffet and therefore the only ones who don’t fall immediately ill from advanced food poisoning. This also makes them the only two people who can pass as the newly married couple and redeem the all expenses paid honeymoon to Hawaii. Olive and Ethan desperately need a vacation and decide to have a truce so they can enjoy individual time relaxing. The problem? They have to act married and have run ins with people from back home, making the stakes even higher. . Not only is the situation believable, but it’s so much fun to read. Told with comedic levity, The Unhoneymooners throws our two main characters into hilarious situations where you can’t help but root for them to admit to their feelings and just be honest with each other. Their time together faking a marriage really opens them up and has them learning for each other, developing into mature and well rounded individuals. . What a lot of romances get wrong, Christina Lauren get right. You have tension, and comedy, and drama, and levity, and emotions, and most of all, a highly believable and realistic happily ever after. . So, share with me your feeling on this book, and help me pick the next Christina Lauren book I should dive into!
